Activity continues across the scheme, with progress being made in several locations.

In the Rochestown area, retaining wall construction and road‑widening works extending from the Bloomfield Junction remain ongoing, with preparations now underway for upcoming blacktop surfacing works. In addition, excavation for the foundations of the structure on the south side of Rochestown Road is expected to begin shortly.

Works at the Mount Oval off‑ramp are ongoing, where excavation for the new slip road continues. At Maryborough Hill, excavation works for road crossings associated with service diversions are scheduled to commence in approximately two weeks, with these works taking place at night. A watermain connection is also planned for the night of Tuesday 16th June and will be carried out without the need for traffic management. Hoarding will be installed in the Edgewood area during the following week to facilitate upcoming works.

Along the Maryborough to Carr’s Hill link road, excavation works remain ongoing alongside the construction of retaining walls on the east and west sides of the N28. These activities will continue over the coming months. On the Board of Works Road, work on the new bridge structure is progressing, with excavation and construction activities ongoing and expected to continue for some time.

At Shannonpark, work on the structure and the new link road continues, with preparations now underway for the installation of precast beams spanning between the retaining walls. On Rock Road, work on the structure is also progressing. At Coogan’s Lane, plant crossings are scheduled for next week, with traffic lights to be in operation during these activities.

In the Shanbally area (Marion Terrace), machinery continues to cross the roadway during working hours, and excavation works for the overbridge are due to commence shortly. In addition, foundation works for the structure are planned to begin within the next couple of weeks.

Additionally, a delivery of structural beams to the Shannonpark structure is planned for the night of Tuesday 16th into the early hours of Wednesday 17th. Due to the length of the beams, transport will take place overnight under escort. Local traffic management, including the use of flagmen, will be in operation to facilitate the safe entry of delivery vehicles into the site at Shannonpark.

Traffic Management
Traffic management arrangements continue to support these ongoing works. Recent adjustments have been made on the N28 between Bloomfield and Rochestown, and motorists are advised to take care when travelling through this section and to follow all signage.

At Maryborough Hill near the bridge, traffic management measures, including stop/go arrangements and temporary traffic signals, will be introduced in approximately two weeks to facilitate the planned service diversion works. Along the R855 and R609 (Carrigaline Road), both east and west of the N28, traffic control measures remain in place, with flagmen or temporary signals operating during working hours to manage plant crossings. These arrangements may vary depending on weather and site conditions.

Similar intermittent traffic controls are in operation on the Board of Works Road, where flagmen or temporary signals are used as required to safely manage construction traffic. On Ballinrea Road, flagmen continue to oversee plant crossings during working hours, with additional traffic management measures in place along the verge of the R611.

At Coogan’s Lane, temporary traffic lights will be in operation next week to accommodate plant movements. In Shanbally (Marion Terrace), stop/go traffic management remains in place during working hours to facilitate ongoing construction activities and ensure safe passage for road users.

Rock excavation by means of controlled blasting has recommenced in an area of cutting to the North of the Shannonpark Roundabout.

Ringaskiddy Relief Road

Works on the Ringaskiddy Relief Road are nearing completion. Surfacing works have now been finalised, with only minor lining works remaining. Final finishing and snagging activities are currently ongoing across the section as the project moves towards completion.
