Progress Update
25th July 2025
Dear <>,
The M28 Cork to Ringaskiddy Motorway Scheme continues to advance with strong momentum. Significant construction activities are now well underway, with earthworks advancing between Carrs Hill and Shannonpark, clearance at St. Patrick’s Church and material moving from Barnahely to Shanbally.

Site Clearence is scheduled to continue along the off-ramp to Rochestown from the N28, with localised traffic management in place next week to accommodate the works. Ducting works will also proceed near St Patrick’s Church in Rochestown, again with local traffic measures in effect. Ecology surveys and environmental protection measures are continuing as site clearance works progress.
Earthworks are ongoing between Shannonpark to Carrs Hill with topsoil stripping due to take place between Barnahely and Raffeen over the coming weeks. Consultation with utility providers is progressing to coordinate any remaining service diversions.
Rock excavation by means of controlled blasting is proposed to commence on the project on Tuesday the 19th of August 2025. This activity will commence in an area of cutting to the north of the Shannon Park Roundabout. Blasting activities will occur at specific notified times and in a regular pattern between Monday and Friday during daylight hours until February 2026. Blasting shall be conducted in accordance with statutory requirements and relevant codes of practice and in such a way so as to prevent adverse impacts to the public, property, and environment. BAM will notify all relevant parties in advance of any blasting activity.

The movement of material from Barnahely to Shanbally, to facilitate embankment construction over the coming weeks, will result in additional truck movements along the N28 from the R613 in Ringaskiddy towards Shanbally, turning left approximately 150 metres before Shanbally roundabout.

If there are any queries regarding construction works, you can contact Des Gilsenan, Public Relations Officer for BAM.

Ringaskiddy Urban Realm

Works through Ringaskiddy village are nearing completion with notable improvements visible in recent weeks. Road resurfacing has commenced and is expected to be complete mid August, while footpaths and feature paving are now substantially complete. The remaining street furniture will be installed over the coming weeks in the village centre and by the playground. Upon completion of the road surfacing the remaining landscaping will provide the finishing touches to the transformed space for the whole community to enjoy.
To allow for the safe construction of the remaining works temporary traffic management provisions including traffic lights and flagmen will continue to operate in Ringaskiddy Village during August, with some parking spaces temporarily lost as a result. Where possible, two-way traffic will be maintained. Cork County Council will continue to coordinate all traffic management measures with Coffey Construction, endeavouring to keep restrictions to a minimum with traffic queues being monitored continuously to minimise delays and disruption.
Ringaskiddy Relief Road

Steady progress continues on the Ringaskiddy Relief Road. At Barnahely Roundabout, offline works are ongoing, with the majority of kerbing now in place and various utility diversions advancing well. The first section of road pavement has been laid on the mainline between Barnahely and Old Post Office Road, where several utility diversions have also been completed. Foundation works for the new underpass at Old Post Office Road are underway, with installation scheduled over the next two weeks. Excavation works are progressing in the Loughbeg Road cut, alongside the commencement of drainage installation. Brick paving at Ringaskiddy Roundabout is nearing completion.
