Progress Update

11th July 2025

Dear <>,

We are delighted to announce that BAM have now commenced construction works, with activity well underway at both St. Patrick’s Church in Rochestown and Shannonpark. This marks an exciting step forward for the project, as work moves from preparation into active construction.

Ducting works will commence next week in the St Patrick’s Church area of Rochestown, with localised traffic management in place. Ecology surveys and protection measures are continuing as site clearance works progress.

Tree felling works to commence following ducting works at St. Patricks Church in late July. Traffic management on the N28 will include off-peak lane restrictions to minimise disruption.

BAM have commenced earthworks excavations between Shannon Park and Carr’s Hill. Topsoil stripping will commence between Barnahely and Raffeen in the next week. Consultation with utility companies is ongoing for any remaining planned diversions of existing services.

If there are any queries regarding construction works, you can contact Des Gilsenan, Public Relations Officer for BAM.

Ringaskiddy Urban Realm

Works are continuing across the scheme, with several key elements nearing completion. Road resurfacing through the village will commence in the next fortnight, while footpaths and feature paving are now substantially complete. Street furniture has been installed, helping to shape the look and feel of the upgraded public space. Landscaping works are also continuing throughout the scheme, contributing to a more attractive and welcoming environment for all.

Traffic signals will continue to operate in Ringaskiddy Village, with some parking spaces temporarily lost as a result. Cork County Council will continue to coordinate traffic management with Coffey Construction, endeavouring to keep restrictions to a minimum with traffic queues being monitored continuously to minimise delays and disruption. Where possible, two-way traffic will be maintained.

Ringaskiddy Relief Road

Significant progress has been made across multiple areas of the project. The Ringaskiddy Roundabout is now substantially complete, with paving works ongoing. In Loughbeg, drainage and excavation works are progressing steadily. Tower Road has been substantially completed and has now reopened to traffic.

As part of the next phase, Old Post Office Road is currently closed to facilitate the construction of a new underpass, with associated utility diversions now underway. Meanwhile, mainline earthworks and drainage continue between Old Post Office Road and Barnahely. Construction of the Barnahely Roundabout has also commenced, marking another key milestone in the delivery of the scheme.
