Archaeological Discoveries

From the outset, the M28 project team has worked to safeguard the cultural and historical assets along the route. Archaeological investigations have been carefully integrated into advance works, ensuring discoveries are recorded, preserved, and respected. The project’s statutory processes, combined with local engagement, guarantee that development balances progress with the preservation of Cork’s heritage.

Ecology

The M28 route crosses diverse landscapes including karstified limestone and quarry lands. Significant design adaptations were made to address ecological sensitivities and to manage land use responsibly. Advanced works in Raffeen Quarry, along with sustainable drainage and careful earthworks, reduce environmental disruption. Each stage of construction has been shaped by environmental assessments, ensuring a respectful approach to Cork Harbour’s unique natural setting.
