R609 Carrs Hill On-Ramp to access N28 for Carrigaline/Ringaskiddy (Closure from 8pm on Thursday 30th July to 6am on Wednesday 5th August)

The Carrs Hill southbound slip road (to Carrigaline/Ringaskiddy) onto the N28 will be temporarily closed from 8pm on Thursday July 30th to 6am on Wednesday August 5th 2026 to facilitate the construction of the new Carrs Hill Junction. The N28 off-slip to Douglas will remain open throughout the works.
Significant earthworks are required to construct the new junction and achieve the approved road alignment. These works involve:
• Raising the western side of the N28 by approximately 2.5 metres.
• Lowering the eastern side of the N28 by approximately 2 metres.
• Constructing the new Carrs Hill Junction layout.
• Completing extensive excavation and embankment works.
• Surfacing the new sections of road.
• Filling/excavating and preparing for surfacing the two new roundabouts.
Due to the restricted width of the existing road corridor, there is insufficient space to safely carry out these works while maintaining traffic on the on-slip. The temporary closure is therefore necessary to provide a safe working environment for both road users and construction personnel.
The N28 will remain fully open during these works but the closure of the Carrs Hill on-slip will enable the project team to efficiently complete the earthworks and road construction activities required for the new junction. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and complete the works as quickly as possible while maintaining the highest safety standards.
We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during these essential works, which will deliver significant long-term improvements to transport infrastructure in the area.
